Parent Notice: Attendance and Illness Guidelines

To help keep our school community healthy, please note the following guidelines:

  • If your child is sent home with a fever, they will also be excused the following school day.

  • Students must be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. This helps prevent the spread of illness to others.

Attendance Calls
If you receive an automated message stating that your child is absent but they are in school, please contact the office. Occasionally, the wrong student name may be marked, or your child may have arrived after attendance was taken in the classroom. We will promptly correct any errors.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and healthy environment for all students.

Pre-Pay Bundle extended to Aug. 29

You can still pay for class shirts + Streetcar Snoballs + pizza until Aug. 29. This will cover the cost of these items for the year. Please make checks payable to NDLE or send exact cash ($63.00). Also, write on your form what size shirt your child needs and what kind of pizza (cheese or pepperoni).

All students need a class shirt. This shirt is worn on Field Trips as well as Field Day. This is an easy, visual way for teacher and students to keep up with their class. Class shirts are $8 and can be paid for by themselves.

The Pizza Fundraiser is $25 for the year. You can only pay for this for the year and money is due August 29th. There will not be forms that go home before Pizza Day. There will be 4 pizza days throughout the year.

Streetcar Snoballs will come once a month. If you would like to pay for the year, it is $30 due August 29th. You can also send $4 cash the day Streetcar Snoballs is coming to school and pay as you go.

All 3 together is $63. If you've already paid for your class shirt, but want to pay for Pizza and Snoballs it's $55. You can also pay for your class shirt + pizza ($33) or class shirt + snoballs ($38). Again, prepay bundles and pizza are due August 29th. All students are expected to purchase a class shirt for $8. If you have questions please call our office at 925-2383.

*If your child is absent the day of pizza or snoballs, your money will be donated to our school fund. There will be no refunds.

Attention Kindergarten Parents!!!!!!

Mrs. Odom, Library/ STREAM Teacher, has sent home an August Reading Log in your child’s folder. Here’s how it works:

  • Each time you read with your child at home, please write down the title of the book, the date, and your initials.

  • No exact reading time is needed, but please read for at least 15 minutes.

  • After finishing a book, your child can color in a star to show how much they enjoyed it!

  • Once all 15 spots are filled, your child will earn a small prize from Mrs. Odom.

📅 Completed Reading Logs are due Friday, August 29th.

Mrs. Odom will send home a new reading log each month.

Thank you for supporting your child’s love of reading—
Happy Reading! 📚✨

**First grade reading prizes are based on AR (Accelerated Reader). Mrs. Odom and Teachers will be teaching students how to access this.

**PreK students do not have a reading goal for Mrs. Odom at this time.

Two of Mrs. Angie Burford's students received Leadership Tokens on Friday! Thank you for showing Habit 1: Be Proactive!

pic

Leader In Me

We are starting our Leadership Token nominations! Each month, students can be nominated by school staff for showing the Habit of the Month. Deputy Randolph will stop by classrooms to celebrate students who receive nominations and take them get a book from the book machine with their token. Our school-wide goal is to reach 15 nominations each month.

For August–September, the habit is Habit 1: Be Proactive. Here are some examples of Habit 1 that teachers and staff will look for:

At School

  • Helping a classmate clean up a spill or mess without waiting to be told

  • Noticing supplies that need to be restocked (like tissues or pencils) and taking care of it

  • Reminding the group of class expectations before an activity begins

  • Raising their hand instead of blurting out

With Friends

  • Asking someone to play instead of waiting to be invited

  • Sharing without a reminder

With Feelings

  • Taking a deep breath when frustrated

  • Asking an adult for help before a problem gets bigger

  • Using “I feel…” words to explain feelings

  • Going to the calm-down corner when needing a break

School Apps

Hi Parents! Look at the icons to see apps that we use and are available for download in Google Play or the Apple App Store.

  • Class Dojo - Teachers gave out QR codes to join their classroom. This is where you see your child's behavior at school. Positive behavior (following rules and procedures) gets green points. Not following rules and procedures will earn red points. classdojo.com

  • DeSoto Parish Schools - This app is where you find ROOMS for messaging directly with teachers as well as access to our school website with lots of information. You also have access to all the different ND schools and district website.

  • Clever - Kindergarten and First grade students with Chromebooks and QR sign in codes at home have access to DeSoto schools learning apps through Clever. Reading Eggs, My Path, MyOn, and Zearn are all programs that can be used for extra practice at home. The office staff are working on getting Chromebooks issued for students who do not have one yet. Parents must sign and return the Technology Device Loan Agreement before a Chromebook is issued to your student. Our students do not bring Chromebooks with them to and from school. This device should stay home once it is issued. You can access Clever on Chromebooks through the website clever.com, and you can also download the app on a smart phone or iPad.

  • JC Student - This is an app where you can check your student's grades. It is a more convenient way to get to the Student Progress Center.

We recommend using these apps and checking them regularly to stay engaged with your student's learning. Make a note of any questions you may have and message your teacher or ask in person at our Parent/Teacher Conferences on September 8.
