Time to Buy a 2026 NDLE Yearbook |
Flyers will be coming home in student folders with a QR code and details about purchasing yearbooks. All yearbook sales are online. Our yearbooks cost $42 with all fees included. Our yearbooks are made with the company Pictavo and managed through Cowen Photography. Our yearbooks will be distributed to students before the last day of school in May 2026.
Our school receives a portion of the proceeds for yearbook and any Cowen photography picture sales. Essentially yearbooks and picture sales are fundraisers for our school. In order to maximize the school's earnings, we will not be ordering any extra yearbooks to be sold at the end of the year. In other words, if you want a yearbook, order one through the website before March 31. If you need help with ordering or have any questions, please email tara.brawley@desotopsb.com. You can scan the QR code provided in this post or go to the online store with this link https://www.buytheyearbook.com/en/ Business or personal ads may also be purchased on the website. Here are the total prices for business or personal ads. Quarter page ($26.25) Half page ($52.50) Whole page ($105) Parents can design their own ad on the website or you can send the pictures and a message to tara.brawley@desotopsb.com and I will create an ad for you. All orders and completed ads are due March 31, 2026. |

| Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood®
This month, our students are practicing Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. This habit focuses on the principle of respect and deep, intentional listening. What is Habit 5? In "Kid Language," Habit 5 simply means: Listen Before You Talk.
Most of us listen with the intent to reply—thinking about what we want to say next instead of truly hearing the speaker. Habit 5 teaches us to listen with the intent to understand. It encourages us to see the world from another person's perspective before sharing our own. Why is it Important for Kids? Stronger Friendships: By listening carefully, children show their friends that they value their ideas and feelings. Better Conflict Resolution: Understanding "the other side" of a story helps kids find peaceful solutions.
Increased Confidence: Once children feel they have truly understood someone else, they can express their own ideas more clearly and with greater courage. How to Practice at Home
Listen with "Ears, Eyes, and Heart": Remind your child that good listening isn't just about hearing words; it’s about watching body language and feeling the speaker’s emotions. Ask Before You Advise: When your child is upset, try saying: "Help me understand how you're feeling first." Really listen without interrupting before offering help or solutions.
The "One Hour Challenge": Try to go one hour without talking, only observing and listening to others. Discuss what you learned by being "the listener". |
