| Habit 6: Synergize® — "Together is Better"
Habit 6 is the reward of all the other habits. It happens when two or more people work together to create a better solution than either could have thought of alone. It’s not about "your way" or "my way," but finding a "Higher Way." Synergy is like a great orchestra: every instrument is different, but when they play together, they create beautiful music that a single violin or drum couldn't make on its own. 🌟 How to Practice Synergy at Home You don't need a classroom to practice synergy! Here are a few ways to bring this habit into your living room:
The "Synergy Problem Solver": Next time there is a disagreement (like what to have for dinner or what movie to watch), ask: "I have an idea, and you have an idea. How can we come up with a third idea that we both like even better?"
Highlight Strengths: Celebrate the differences in your family. "I’m really good at organizing the groceries, and you’re great at carrying the heavy bags. Together, we get the job done fast!" Family Projects: Whether it’s gardening, cleaning the playroom, or baking cookies, emphasize that the task is more fun and successful because everyone is contributing their unique "spark." 📖 A Story to Read Together: The Treehouse Team Read this short story with your child and discuss the question at the end!
Sophie the Squirrel and Gabe the Gopher wanted to build a lookout point. Sophie wanted it high in the oak tree to see the forest. Gabe wanted it underground to stay cool and safe. They started to argue, but then they remembered Habit 6: Synergize.
They sat down and shared their "why." Sophie loved the view; Gabe loved the safety. Instead of choosing one or the other, they worked together to build a "Tree-Root Cabin"—a cozy home nestled right against the base of the tree with a long, winding staircase leading to a high balcony. It was safer than a high branch and had a better view than a tunnel. By combining their ideas, they built something better than they ever imagined!
"How did Sophie and Gabe use their differences to make something better, and what is one thing our family can do better together than alone?" |
