🌟 Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind 🌟
(From The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey)
This month, our school is focusing on Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind — the habit of having a plan! When students (and adults!) begin with the end in mind, they think about their goals before they start, and make choices that help them reach those goals.
🏫 At School
Students are learning to:
Set academic and personal goals for themselves.
Think about what success looks like before starting a task.
Make daily choices that help them reach their goals — like staying focused, being prepared, and showing kindness.
Teachers might ask questions such as:
“What does your finished project look like?”
“What steps will help you reach your goal?”
These simple questions help students develop responsibility and direction in their learning.
🏠 At Home
Families can support Habit 2 by encouraging goal setting together! Try these ideas:
Family Goal Setting: Talk about what your family wants to accomplish this month — maybe reading every night, being on time for school, or keeping the car clean!
Personal Goals: Help your child set a small, specific goal (for example: I will learn all my sight words by the end of the month.).
Celebrate Progress: When your child works toward their goal, notice it! Say things like, “You stuck to your plan — that’s beginning with the end in mind!”
💡 Conversation Starter
Ask your child:
“What is something you’re working toward this week?”
“What will it look like when you reach your goal?”
By practicing Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind, we teach our children that every dream begins with a plan — and every success starts with a clear vision of where we want to go.
✨ When we know our “end,” every choice becomes a step in the right direction! ✨
