Leader In Me

Habit 1: Be Proactive

Being proactive means taking responsibility for your actions, choices, and attitudes instead of blaming others or circumstances. It’s about focusing on what you can control and choosing a positive response, no matter the situation.

From a Student Perspective:

  • Example 1: If a student forgets their homework, instead of saying, “My teacher didn’t remind me,” they take responsibility and say, “I’ll set a reminder so I remember next time.”

  • Example 2: When someone is unkind, instead of reacting with anger, the student chooses to walk away or use respectful words.

From a Parent Perspective:

  • Example 1: If a morning is rushed, a proactive parent says, “Let’s lay out clothes and pack lunches the night before so mornings feel calmer,” instead of blaming the child for being slow.

  • Example 2: When a child struggles with reading, instead of saying, “They just don’t like books,” a proactive parent looks for ways to help—reading together, asking the teacher for strategies, or celebrating small successes.

✨ In short, Habit 1 is about choosing to act with responsibility, positivity, and solutions—rather than reacting with blame or excuses.

Parent Tip for Being Proactive

Why It’s Important to Monitor Technology
Technology can be a great way for children to learn and have fun, but young kids don’t always know what’s safe or appropriate. By checking in on what your child is watching, playing, or sharing, you can help protect them from harmful content and guide them toward healthy, positive choices. Monitoring isn’t about “catching” them—it’s about keeping them safe and teaching them how to use technology responsibly as they grow. Scan the QR code on the flyer below to learn about Go Guardian for Parents. This is a tool provided by our District that enables teachers to monitor a whole class while they are on their chromebooks and is now available to you at home.
