Leader In Me

Habit 1: Be Proactive

🌟 Habit 1: Be Proactive & The Circle of Control

Being proactive means focusing on what’s inside your Circle of Control—the things you can choose or influence—rather than wasting energy on what you can’t control.

Student Perspective:

  • Inside My Circle of Control: My attitude, my effort, my words, how I treat others.

  • Outside My Circle of Control: The weather, what others say, school rules.
👉 Example: If it rains during recess, a proactive student thinks, “I can’t control the weather, but I can choose a fun indoor game.”

Parent Perspective:

  • Inside My Circle of Control: How I prepare for mornings, the routines I set at home, how I respond to challenges.

  • Outside My Circle of Control: Traffic, a child’s natural personality, schedule changes from school.
👉 Example: If traffic makes the family late, a proactive parent says, “I’ll leave a little earlier tomorrow,” instead of blaming the situation.

✨ The key connection: Proactive people focus on what they can control, let go of what they can’t, and choose positive actions within their circle.

Parent Tip for Being Proactive

Why It’s Important to Monitor Technology
Technology can be a great way for children to learn and have fun, but young kids don’t always know what’s safe or appropriate. By checking in on what your child is watching, playing, or sharing, you can help protect them from harmful content and guide them toward healthy, positive choices. Monitoring isn’t about “catching” them—it’s about keeping them safe and teaching them how to use technology responsibly as they grow. Scan the QR code on the flyer below to learn about Go Guardian for Parents. This is a tool provided by our District that enables teachers to monitor a whole class while they are on their chromebooks and is now available to you at home.
