5th-grade Student of the Year is an annual competition that starts at the school level and progresses to district, regional, and state competitions.
Student nominations at our site are based on grades, state test results, and behavior. These requirements are aligned to a state rubric, which is used to score applicants. Students who are nominated compete in up to 3 rounds. In the 1st round, students submit a digital Portfolio. Semifinalists are then scored on a timed Writing prompt. Lastly, finalists complete an interview with a panel of community members.
We have so many strong candidates each year, and it is always a tough competition. Congratulations to all our nominees, semifinalists, and finalists; they are all exemplary students and a joy to have in our school.
We are so grateful for the generosity of PTO. These ladies work hard for our students and staff. This week they blessed our Family Engagement team with a donation to support Christmas at the U! We are so excited to make the holidays memorable for our students and their families and could not do it without the help of our community sponsors.
Students can purchase Boo Bags from the concession stand each morning before school Oct. 27-30. They will be delivered on Oct. 31st.

North DeSoto LOWER will host the Book Parade on October 31st at 9 am. Each of their homerooms will parade around campus, depicting a fictional character from their class book. Our students will participate by viewing this parade. Families can watch the parade from across the street, but are not allowed to mix in with our student body. This is a shorter routed event with no throws, so we encourage you to attend only if you have a student in the parade.
Our students may wear a FICTIONAL Book Character costume on this day within dress code restrictions. Students who do not follow these guidelines will have to change.
(NO sleeveless, NO characters who are also real people, NO masks, nothing from a horror book, length must be 4 inches from the knee or leggings must be worn.)
Please share with us your children's accomplishments outside of school, so that we can share them with the community! We are proud of our Griffins. We are specifically looking for Team Championships (please include ALL NDUE students on the team's names) and Individual Awards. Attach any pictures and a list of the awards along with the name of the competition by going to the link below. Thank you!
