Principal's Message: WELCOME BACK!!!!

Back-to-School Season is one of the busiest times of the year. With all the newness, it is easy for us as adults to be a little overwhelmed by change, let alone our children. Jumping back into a routine, experiencing the challenges of the pace and expectations of a new grade level, and working through new relationships with classmates and teachers is a lot for a little person to process.

The good news is that kids are extremely resilient and, if met with affirmation and encouragement, they adapt very quickly. Carve out the downtime your student needs to rest and reset for the week. If they come home with frustration from their day, listen to understand, affirm their feelings, provide a few words of encouragement, and then ask them to share something good that happened or something they enjoyed learning. Allow them to brag on themself by asking, "What did you do today that made you feel proud of yourself?"

In a world where people seem to wallow in negativity, these conversations help kids address the negative parts of their day but stay focused on all that is good.

This month we are talking about Habit 1: Be PROACTIVE. I am in charge of me!

By focusing on the things in our circle of control, we teach our children that they have the power to determine the type of day they will have, and those days can become a lifetime of agency.  Nothing builds a student's self-esteem more than teaching students to recognize the power they have over their efforts, attitudes, and outcomes.

We look forward to a wonderful year of partnering with you to love, support, challenge, and celebrate your child.

Geaux Griffins!

JCampus Connect: All DeSoto Parish Schools are communicating through the JCampus Connect this year. We will no longer use ROOMS. Please set up your JCampus account today using the directions below.

ACADEMIC PARENT NIGHT for 2nd & 3rd grade is Thursday Aug. 27th from 6:00-7:00. Come join us and rotate through your child’s schedule to learn more about academic expectations and how you can help them at home. Childcare is provided. We hope to see you there. Parents who attend will get an incentive ticket for their child.

CLASS T-SHIRTS:

This year we ask that all students purchase a class t-shirt to be worn for class team rewards, field trips, special events, and even field day. Students will take these shirts home and are more than welcome to wear them on Fridays as a spirit shirt as well. Our PTO will keep the shirt in stock and ready to order throughout the year to support our growing students. Shirts are just $10 and can be purchased using the QR code or paper order form.

This year at NDUE, we are keeping the Chromebooks AT SCHOOL in an effort to return to more paper-based work and to reduce overall wear and tear of these devices. All homework will be paper-based, including on asynchronous learning days. Students have ample designated time daily to work on completing their 3 weekly Zearn Lessons and taking test for AR; however, you are welcome to follow the directions below to access these platforms from home.

PTO selling concessions weekly on Fridays. Here’s a list of what they are offering this year! Please note that there is a $10 limit. Also, if you would like to volunteer to “work” concessions, please reach out to us. PTOndue@gmail.com

Every day is a great day to learn something NEW!

Volunteer Opportunities:

We are always looking for volunteers to support our school. The best way to get connected for available volunteer opportunities is to join PTO.
